At Ecoscape, we believe that “you protect what you love.” Miyawaki forests offer people the chance to connect with nature right where they live, fostering a deeper appreciation for the environment and encouraging long-term stewardship.

What is a Miyawaki forest, and why are we excited about it?
A Miyawaki forest is a dense, fast-growing mini forest designed using a method developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. It’s a powerful way to bring rapid greening and biodiversity into urban environments and it’s catching global attention for good reason.
We’re advocating for the integration of these forests into community spaces – not just for their ecological value, but for their ability to connect people through shared purpose, improve mental wellbeing, and restore native biodiversity.
Our team has begun exploring opportunities for a local Miyawaki Pocket Forest in Walyalup (Fremantle), reaching out to the City of Fremantle, Carbon Positive Australia, and local restoration advocate Dr Grey Coupland to help bring this idea to life.
