Understanding the behaviour of birds and bats informs the responsible planning of green energy projects.

Collaborative science and knowledge sharing
Collaboration in science is important to expand skills, share knowledge and get important work done.Understanding the way birds and bats utilise areas where wind farms are proposed is vital to understand behaviour and minimise impacts and gathers valuable data for modelling and Environmental Impact Assessment.
More research is required to understand how bird and bats species in WA interact with turbines and the effectiveness of existing harm minimisation techniques. Development of a standardised survey methodology both pre and post build, will help to lessen the impact of wind farms on Australian birds and bats who can behave differently than species in other areas such as Europe where more extensive research has been done.
A number of our team have had the privilege of being able to work with and learn from the passionate team at Bamford Consulting Ecologists completing wind farm surveys in Western Australia.
