The first in a staged rollout of improved access and coastal amenities for Cottesloe Beach.
Cottesloe Beach Access Paths upgrading
Ecoscape was engaged to design upgrades for Cottesloe’s beach access paths – the first in a staged rollout of new stair structures and coastal amenities extending north and south of the main beach. Our work began with a review of the Town of Cottesloe’s style guide and a collaborative assessment with the Beach Access Path Committee to determine which paths should be prioritised for upgrade.
The location and layout of the access nodes were carefully considered to encourage social interaction while also catering to specialist user groups like kite surfers. Positioned in highly visible areas, the nodes have been designed to blend with the natural beachfront landscape using materials and forms that minimise visual impact.
Four access nodes were completed in April 2019, delivered alongside upgrades to Cottesloe’s main beach. The two projects required careful coordination of materials and design, as well as strategic site management to minimise disruption to beachgoers during the peak summer season.
The nodes have since become popular hang-out locations situated along the shared path and contribute to the relaxed coastal atmosphere of the Cottesloe foreshore.
