Karara Block Landform Spatial Assessment
Karara Mining Limited (KML) engaged Ecoscape to undertake a spatial analysis of elevated landforms within the Karara Block to objectively identify significant landform features. A multi criteria analysis (MCA) was undertaken of elevated landforms using a transparent methodology in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Using GIS datasets physical parameters such as height, slope and extent were measured and assigned numerical values based on prominence, rarity and complexity within the landscape. The analysis provided statistical results for elevated landforms including, areal extent, height, slope, shape, orientation and proximity to other features. The layers were converted into raster datasets to enable a cell by cell analysis with the final output showing the landforms categorized into high, medium and low value. This objective spatial analysis clearly illustrated the landform values within the Karara Block which were presented as part of the Karara Conservation and Mining Initiative (KCMI) process.
