Tomato Lake Master Plan

Client: City of Belmont
Ecoscape’s vision is to create a unique parkland character providing site responsive public activities and facilities to support the sensory development of children and the emotional and physical well-being of the community; whilst maintaining the key ecological values of the site.

In 2011, the City of Belmont initiated a preliminary planning project to review and evaluate Tomato Lake Park, Kewdale, with a view to introducing staged improvements to enhance the existing quality of recreational facilities and ensure a high level of environmental conservation over the next 10 to 30 years. The City engaged Ecoscape to prepare a Master Plan to incorporate the following key project objectives; develop amenities with a recreational focus for day trip tourists and local residents; accommodate community events without negatively impacting local residents, expand and enhance the walking and cycling trail experience, to rationalise the road network and parking arrangements. Tomato Lake Park incorporates a modified Conservation Category Wetland which acts as a drainage catchment area for the adjacent road network. This wetland supports a rich biophysical diversity, and plays an important role in Perth’s regional wetland environment. The site has a complex sociocultural history in terms of ownership and use.
