Targeted Spider Survey at Weld Range

Sinosteel Midwest Corporation (SMC) appointed Ecoscape to undertake a targeted survey for conservation significant fauna at the Weld Range Project.

Sinosteel Midwest Corporation (SMC) appointed Ecoscape to undertake a targeted survey for conservation significant fauna, in particular for the Shield-back Trapdoor-Spider at the Weld Range Project.  Recent information from the WA Museum has indicated that the taxonomy and systematics of the Shield-back Trapdoor-Spider Idiosoma and related genera of Australian trapdoor spiders has been revised based on an intensive molecular sequencing project.  As a result, the Trapdoor-Spider at Weld Range has been classified as Idiosoma ‘MYG018’.

A number of proposed infrastructure areas were searched by foot for any evidence of the target species.

This assessment will assist in avoiding the clearance of any Idiosoma ‘MYG018’ burrows and habitats that support other conservation significant species.
