Ecoscape was appointed by Fortescue Metals Group to conduct a Visual Impact Assessment of the Solomon Project Area in the Hamersley Ranges of the Pilbara. Ecoscape conducted a visual landscape evaluation of the study area to identify key landscape values and visual receptors of the study area. Ecoscape then set visual management objectives to ensure the retention of key view experiences within the study area. A visual impact assessment was then undertaken to determine the potential visual impacts of the proposed mining infrastructure on the surrounding landscape values. Techniques of viewshed analysis in GIS, 3D modelling and photo montage analysis were used to determine the visual change to the landscape.
