Ecoscape, in partnership with Phoenix Environmental Sciences, were engaged by NRW and Samsung to provide fauna survey services necessary to permit vegetation clearing for the construction of the Roy Hill Rail Project in the Pilbara.

The Project involved fauna survey to identify where the four species of concern (Northern Quoll; Mulgara; Bilby; Pilbara Olive Python) occur within the footprint of the rail alignment. Where it is unavoidable to disturb occupied dens and burrows, individual animals are captured for translocation to undisturbed sites. The work was undertaken under license by the Western Australian Department of Parks and Wildlife and under conditions set by the Commonwealth Department of the Environment.

Ecoscape provided teams of experienced zoologists to work with NRW and Samsung Environmental and Engineering staff to survey the rail alignment and associated borrow pits in order to permit vegetation clearing to proceed. The Project commenced in October 2013 and was completed in March 2014.
