John Curtin College of the Arts

JCY Architects & Urban Designers commissioned Ecoscape to provide design and documentation to create a welcoming school environment for the middle-school extension. The landscape design of the Arts boasts a number of site responsive elements which capitalise on the sites main constraint.

The site is heavily constrained by steep limestone slopes. Ecoscape in collaboration with JCY developed a seating terrace with feature planting in key locations. The terrace forms the backbone of the middle school extension, both as the interface between the old and new school buildings and as a unique element tied to site conditions. By engaging with the particulars of site, the design solution revealed the landscape, increased its legibility and ensured the site responsive strategies contributed to areas larger than its own physical context.

The landscape works were completed in January this year and the building opened to the school community.
