Perth’s Central Institute of Technology (CIT) Greenskills building at their East Perth campus is a six star GBC (Green Building Council of Australia) rated training centre and was recently named Western Australia’s greenest public building. The building is designed to form unique partnerships with key industry bodies and private training providers to respond to the low carbon skill needs in terms of the building, engineering, environment and water industries.
The building and surrounds forms a living laboratory with the ability to provide safe, stimulating, flexible spaces for students. The landscape design connects the Greenskills building to the campus and extends the training centre’s program into the external spaces through the demonstration of sustainable landscape techniques, waste water filtration, and assistance of the building’s passive cooling and heating systems.
Ecoscape developed detailed designs of the landscape component in collaboration with Woodhead Architects and the project team integrating 3 tiered recycled water systems (black/grey/yellow) into the campus irrigation systems. The facility was officially opened in early 2015. The design is a landmark for Western Australia in sustainable landscape architecture.
